Mr Beams Emails

Project Description

A series of custom-coded, custom-designed, mobile-friendly marketing emails.

Project Goals

To highlight Thanksgiving weekend sales for customers via an email marketing campaign. Emails needed to work well across mobile devices and email clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.), with content reflowing based on screen size.

Challenges

Creating custom-coded HTML emails allows for the most control and reliability over the end result, but requires a special skill set and extensive testing. The timeline for these emails was also tight, so that difficult work had to be done quickly.

Creative Strategy

My co-worker created the designs for each of the emails in Photoshop according to Mr Beams brand standards and her design expertise. I provided input based on my knowledge of how HTML emails work and must be structured. Once the designs were completed and approved, I custom-coded the emails to match them, then determined how the content would re-flow on varying screen sizes. The final versions were thoroughly tested and the files provided to the client.

Results

The client was thrilled to have well-designed, mobile-friendly emails to send out for such an important campaign. They received a good response with their customers and continued to work with us on other custom-coded sales projects.

My Role

I provided technical input on the email design, then extracted the images and necessary information from the Photoshop files. I optimized the images for web use and custom-coded each email using HTML and CSS compatible with most email clients. I ensured everything was working correctly in a web browser and re-flowing based on size before running tests using Email on Acid. Based on the test results, I looked into and corrected display issues until the emails were displaying well across major email clients. I then provided the client with the needed files and was available for technical support as needed.
